A Trip to America’s Low Country
“Although I adore a trip to a far-flung, adventurous locale, I am also a huge fan of exploring my own backyard. North America has so many gorgeous places to visit, vast forests and snow-capped mountains, not to mention incredible beaches and vibrant cities. I spent Valentines Day exploring Charleston, South Carolina, a city bursting with history and oozing with southern charm, and the Dewberry Hotel is no exception. This gorgeous design hotel is in a renovated government building full of beautiful marble, hardwood floors, velvet furniture and a classic bar reminiscent of the Jazz Age. The hotel is also ideally located in the historical part of town across from a lovely park with shady willow trees and Spanish moss. The hotel staff was kind enough to upgrade us to a gorgeous suite with a view of the park and the team also has a free shuttle to take you to various locations in the downtown core. We also took advantage of the evocative history in the city on several walking tours including a midnight ghost walking tour in which we learned about the more gruesome side of the city’s history. It sure wasn’t for the faint of heart! I can’t wait to return to this charming southern city and to the superlative Dewberry Hotel!” ~ Eileen from @lighttravelsfaster.
